Fiona works Tuesday to Thursday

I started my role as an Information and Advocacy Worker in the Kindred Fife team in 2023.  Prior to this worked in Nursing and Education.  I received my Bachelor of Nursing Honours degree in 2009 and began my career in Oncology and Haematology, hoping to specialise in Palliative Care. I was very passionate about my job and didn’t envisage any other career path. However, becoming a parent of a child with complex additional support needs changes your priorities and focus and so life took me in a different direction.

I completed a Professional Development Award as an Education Support Assistant and then worked as a Pupil Support Assistant in primary schools. I felt very privileged to work alongside pupils with a wide range of additional support needs. I was already a passionate advocate for my own child, however this role cemented my interest in advocacy and the rights of both the child and the carer.  I therefore wanted to be in a setting that could affect change and work in a holistic and positive way.  It has always been important to me to work in an area which is meaningful and which improves the lives of others and this led me to Kindred. I wish I had known about Kindred years ago when I was struggling and felt that no one was willing to listen or understood our situation. The breadth of knowledge and experience, in addition to the support, kindness and compassion of the team at Kindred, is wonderful.

I have a very busy home life with my daughter and two rescue dogs.  I enjoy walking and socialising, reconnecting with those important to me. I love to laugh, so a comedy night would be my favourite night out.
