Our board

The following people bring a range of experience and expertise to Kindred’s Board of Trustees:

Lesley Duncan

Lesley has worked in the Scottish financial services industry since 1993 and brings a range of different skillsets to the Kindred Board.

Ali Kerr

Ali has more than 30 years experience of  fundraising and communications in the Scottish voluntary sector, and still gets very excited about building relationships which make charities, and their communities, stronger. Most of all, Ali is passionate about making Scotland a place where all children and young people feel loved and valued, and is delighted to be a part of the wider team at Kindred who do just that.

Stewart Kirkpatrick

Stewart learned about the wonderful work done by Kindred through the incredible support they gave to his nephew. He is a leading campaigner, with particular expertise in mass communication and people-led actions. He is the Head of Impact at the independent media organisation openDemocracy.  He will be focusing on campaigning as in his previous appointments as Head of Scotland with the digital campaign organisation 38 Degrees and Head of Digital at Yes Scotland.

Trina Kirkpatrick, Chair

Trina has significant experience of working in the third sector in a variety of roles, mostly at senior level. Her main professional experience has been in the area of women's equality but she started out in education, primary school then community education. As a parent of a severely disabled child she has a great deal of knowledge of issues relating to social care, education, health and inclusion. She has worked extensively on intersectional, partnership working and developing inclusive and effective feminist governance across the women's sector.

Grant Thomson, Treasurer

Grant is a senior investment manager.  He has worked in the investment industry for over 20 years, looking after portfolios for charities, pensions, trusts and individuals.  He has two boys and his wife works closely with children who have high level needs, in residential and respite care.

Shahzad Naeem

As a parent of a young adult with severe learning disabilities from birth, I was aware of Kindred during hospital visits. I have been a Software Engineer, Team Lead and Engineering Manager over a period of nearly 30 years. Very glad to be joining Kindred to help continue the invaluable work that it does to support parents and children at very critical times.
